About Livy
Livy is built for the people who run public meetings.
Clerks, analysts, and administrators keep every public body running — city councils, counties, transit agencies, school boards. Their tools should match the work.
Our mission.
One of our co-founders serves on a city council, and the tools they use today are exhausting. Their folders are full of PDFs named things like Agenda_3-12_FINAL_v3.pdf; pulling up what was decided three meetings ago takes ten minutes of scrolling; staff scramble to edit agendas at the last minute; the city attorney watches every noticing window. Everyone is doing their best with the wrong tools.
Livy is the solution: structured records, fast lookup of past decisions, planning workflows that respect staff lead time, and noticing rules built in.
Livy is a public benefit company, with that mission written into how we operate. We also intend to open-source significant parts of the system over time, so any jurisdiction can inspect, extend, or run it themselves.
Why we’re called Livy.
Livy is a Roman historian (who constantly shows up on our favorite podcast In Our Time) whose books are one of the few surviving accounts of how the Roman Republic actually worked. He wrote definitive histories: who proposed what, who voted how, what got struck down. Good public records outlast everyone who made them.
Who builds Livy.

George serves on the Palo Alto City Council and built Livy after using the existing tools firsthand. He sees both sides of the work — the clerk filing the PDF and the official searching for it three months later.
